Peter Exton

Peter Exton

Peter graduated from the University of Western Australia with an Honours degree in Physics, before completing a Postgraduate Diploma of Music in violin performance from the University of Tasmania. He performed in many international violin masterclasses with teachers including Josef Gingold, Sandor Végh, Pinchas Zukerman, Yehudi Menuhin, Max Rostal and Igor Ozim.

For several years Peter was a co-principal player of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, after freelancing with the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. He returned to Australia to take the position of Associate Concertmaster of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and later accepted the position of co-concertmaster with Orchestra Victoria. Peter has performed as concerto soloist with many of Australia's leading orchestras and taught and performed in recital and chamber music ensembles across the country.

Peter commenced his association with Marshall Day Acoustics in 2003 when he joined a team researching the design of performing arts venues. He has specialised in room design with 3D computer modelling using AutoCAD and Rhino, acoustic prediction using Odeon, and room acoustic measurement using DIRAC and IRIS.

Peter’s musical experience allows him to communicate effectively with performers, managers and arts administrators in the planning and commissioning phases of projects. The skills developed with his experience of 3D computer models are essential in analysing the acoustic character of new and existing venues and are a major asset in the development of new rooms with architects and designers.

Peter has contributed to acclaimed outcomes for many performing arts centres, concert halls, rehearsal venues, theatres, and education institutions.
