Con Wassilieff Emeritus

Con Wassilieff retired from Marshall Day Acoustics in early 2013, following 25 years of exemplary service to the Wellington region.

Following nine years as a scientist in the Acoustics and Vibration Section of the DSIR's Physics and Engineering Laboratory, Dr Wassilieff joined Marshall Day Associates in 1989 to run their Wellington practice.

Con's experience ranged widely, from sound insulation and acoustical design of music spaces, studios, commercial and industrial buildings, to power station and substation noise control, to mechanical services. Con became well-known in the industry for his ability to quickly produce innovative, elegant and cost-effective noise control solutions, both in design and in-situ.

His broad and deep knowledge, along with his sense of humour, fairness, and ethics, made him a valued contributor to project meetings, technical committees, consent hearings, and especially to his colleagues. Con measured his success not just by the quality of the acoustical outcomes, but also by how many laughs could be elicited from any given committee. Over 25 years of consulting, Con accumulated friendships amongst his clientele as rapidly as he did successful projects.

Con has moved on to the warmer climate of Gisborne, where he is happily tackling DIY in his new palatial dwelling, mowing the croquet court in neat stripes, and continuing his lifelong passion for producing obscure yet life-saving modes of image transmission through amateur radio bands.
