A vision for growth and sustainability of Tauranga's sporting hub has resulted in a flexible, multi-purpose arena to serve the cultural, social and sporting needs of the expanding city.
This premier $42 million facility gives Tauranga the ability to host any type of event - from community and national sporting fixtures through to conferences, gala dinners, trade shows, corporate hospitality and international musical acts.
ASB Baypark Arena comprises two spacious auditoriums, four meeting suites and two circulation areas joined together by an expansive entry foyer and cafe. The first auditorium is a premium 2400 m2 space featuring three sports courts. The second spans 4500 m2 and comprises six courts to cater for a variety of sporting codes and doubles as an exhibition hall.
Our Brief
Marshall Day Acoustics undertook the full acoustic design for this project:
- Room acoustics for the 3 court and 6 court auditorium
- Sound insulation to prevent noise ingress from the Speedway and control environmental noise
- Mechanical Services noise control
The Arena hosts amplified music concerts and therefore noise to the nearby residential areas was a key element in the design of the building envelope. The building structure also had to be designed to control noise ingress from the adjacent Speedway.
A coordinated design between the architect, structural engineer and acoustic consultant has resulted in the ASB Baypark Arena achieving all its design targets for acoustics.
