Explaining vibration effects to clients can be a challenge, so we have been looking into an exciting new way of communicating this. We have installed a calibrated vibrating platform in the Auckland office's Listening Room. It complements our current 3D sound reproduction and virtual reality rig and we can now offer a truly immersive acoustic experience. Clients will now be able to experience vibrations as they would in the real world.
Environmental noise sources like construction machinery, trains and trucks produce both noise and vibration in nearby buildings. When listening to these, it can be difficult to separate noise from vibration - especially at low frequencies where we feel sound more than we hear it.
With the new vibration rig, we are able to reproduce vibrations accurately and realistically, giving us a valuable tool for making design decisions about amenity, and understanding the crossover between vibration and low-frequency noise.
