Tessa Phillips

Tessa Phillips is an acoustician at our Auckland office with special interests in residential acoustical design and knowledge sharing. She uses her varied skill set to assist with building acoustic projects, acoustics research and administrative work, especially on MDA's internal knowledge sharing systems and documentation. 

Following an early interest in Physics, Music, Architecture and Engineering, Tessa completed a Master of Science in Physics & Acoustics at Auckland University in 1997. Her thesis focussed on methods for in-situ measurement of the acoustic reflection co-efficient. She also completed two internships; one with Marshall Day Acoustics on rain noise research and the other at the Acoustics Testing Service on automation of acoustic Standards' testing. After a detour into IT support and IT training work, starting a family, administrative work and further studies in information management, Tessa returned to her acoustic roots at Marshall Day in September 2016.

Tessa was a key researcher on the collaborative BRANZ project "Acoustical design of medium density housing", funded by the Building Research Levy (BRANZ Study Report ER30). She continues to work on raising NZ building industry awareness of the need for active consideration of acoustics right through the building process from initial concept, to achieve the most cost-effective and efficient solutions.
